This is How We Roll

Yes, this is how we ride.  We're not in some tricked out van like some people drive.

This is the Petpalooza truck Aunt Pat saw at a craft show she did last weekend.  Sarah, Freddy and I prefer a more...understated vehicle.  Who needs a big slobbery head on ones car when you have overwhelming cuteness inside?
We've seen the stares, and the smiles.  Sarah ducked down in the seat when we passed a police car that had stopped another driver.  I think she felt guilty about stealing, err, knocking Daddy's  sandwich off the table and eating it.   Sarah loves to go for car rides every morning.  She'd go for one instead of eating breakfast if the humans let her. Thankfully, they give us breakfast first, and then we'll go for a ride.  Sometimes we'll even go for one in the afternoon, too.  But, it won't last much longer.  Sarah's mom is getting out of the hospital this week, and she'll be going home in a few days.  We'll miss her.  She's been a lot of fun to play with.

We've also gone over to see Freddy's family more frequently the last couple of weeks.  The first time we went, Sarah was very frightened, and didn't want to go inside.  So, Aunt Pat and Nana Mary took her back to our house.  But, the last couple of times we've been over, Sarah has had a wonderful time!  She's made friends with Stanley, Jade, Papa Ed, and their new additions:  Bob, the Coonhound, and Chase, a puppy Freddy's first people are fostering for a local rescue group.  We also met puppies named Wilson, Cara and Alexa, Wilson was just adopted last week!  Chase is the fuzzy one I'm supervising on the left, and Wilson is the one laying closest to me.  The rescue group they're working with is called Blue Moon Meadows.

Of course I had to inspect the crate the puppies sleep in.  No, I'm not nosy, and I know our friends take very good care of their charges.  But, since I give Aunt Pat all sorts of help decorating our house, from making Daddy a throw for his bed, and making pillows, etc, I want to give my assistance to decorating the puppies crate to make it more homey.  It doesn't matter the decorating style, everyone wants a comfortable place to rest.

We're Famous!!!

Wow!  A lot has been going on since my last post.  We've got a furry guest who's staying with us while her human is in the hospital.  She's a Lab Samoyed mix named Sarah, and she's 7, so she's our age.  It's so nice to have another girl around the house!  Freddy's great, but there are just some things a girl wants to talk about with another girl. I'd love to talk to him about what and who we sniffed while on our walks, but he isn't interested.  Men.

Sarah really likes to play and spend time outside.  We've been having fun with our chew toys and tennis balls.  Sarah was a little nervous at first.  She was trying very hard to be good and fit in.  We know she misses her mom, and Daddy and Aunt Pat have been extra nice to her.  I have a lot more to tell you about our adventures in upcoming posts.  But first, the big news!

We're famous!!  Aunt Pat emailed a photo to Petpalooza magazine, a local magazine that features all kinds of pet related articles.  They have a contest every month for the cutest photo, and the prize is a gift card to a local pet store.  Well, we didn't win this month, but our picture got published!  We're photo number 4 on the webpage, and we're in print in the March/ April issue.  How exciting!  I wonder if we'll be discovered by some big talent scout who'll put us on a bag of dog food or in a commercial or something!  Oh dear, I'd better have Daddy and Aunt Pat call our Groomer! I want to be sure we look our best when we get discovered.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Yes, I know we're a day late, but we were rather busy yesterday.  We hope everyone had a lovely day, and that the luck of the Irish was with you.  And no, Daddy didn't put any Guinness in our water bowls.  We were exhausted!  Aunt Pat had a craft show yesterday, so she put me, err Daddy was in charge.  Daddy removed a couple of dead shrubs from the front of the house, so I supervised him tying up all the branches and getting the leaves bagged up and taken to the curb. I also supervised our neighbors,Tony's people, who were out working in their yard.  Daddy took us over when he took us for our afternoon walkies.  It was so nice to get out and see them again.

Freddy and I were all decked out in our St. Patrick's Day finery.  I got cute shamrock bows from none other than our Groomer!  Freddy got his bandanna from the Groomer the last time he went.  Yes, Friday I went and had a wonderful girl's day out.  Aunt Pat took Freddy to see his family, so he wouldn't feel left out.  He had fun, and I missed seeing them.  But, it was great to see my friends again.  I look and smell so good...at least that's what Daddy and Aunt Pat said.

I have some news I'll post about in a day or two.  But, we're having a sleepover!!!  Details to follow.

Brothers!

No, Aunt Pat isn't mad at Daddy.  I'm referring to my dear brother Freddy.  I love him, I really do, but sometimes he can be a little annoying.  I like a slow start to my morning.  Some mornings I love to stay in bed with Aunt Pat and enjoy a nice tummy rub.  But, Freddy's an early bird, err, dog.  He's up promptly at 6:15, jingling his tags.  Once he shakes himself out, he'll come into Aunt Pat's room and bump the bed with both his head and his tail.  Aunt Pat will roll over and pet him.  Then he'll go into Daddy's room.  Daddy's normally up, so he'll greet Freddy and pet him as well.  Aunt Pat and I will usually get up then, because Freddy will head for the top of the staircase and wait for Daddy to go downstairs. If not, then Freddy will come back into our room and smack the bed again.  That boy wants everyone to start their day at the same time.

I'll sit at the top of the stairs for a few moments, because Freddy gets so excited.  I'll head down once I see Daddy carry the bag of dog food into the kitchen.  Once Daddy gives Freddy his medicine, he'll give us our breakfast.  I like to eat slowly, and savor my meal.  It's better for one's digestion to thoroughly chew your food.  But Freddy, nope.  No savoring for him.  I swear he inhales his food.  Then, he'll come into the kitchen to see if I need any help eating.  If not, Daddy will take him out for potties and I can eat in peace.

However, last week there were a couple of mornings when I needed a potty break before I ate.  Daddy made sure that Freddy came out with me, but as with all things, I won't go until I find just the right spot.  Even if it means sniffing nearly the entire back yard.  It's just like when Aunt Pat takes a magazine into the bathroom with her.  Plus, sometimes I'll sniff out a good bit of gossip from one of the critters who visits during the night and I have to stop and take it in.  Freddy will keep the sniffing to a minimum and wants to go back in.
That's the problem.  I hadn't eaten much, so there was food left in my bowl.  Freddy thought he'd be helpful and finish it for me.  Good thing there was food left in the bag.  Daddy and Aunt Pat gave me some more, but it was difficult to eat with Freddy hovering nearby.  Daddy and Aunt Pat lured him upstairs with a treat, but I'm not the type to pass up a good treat, so I didn't use the time to eat. Then, I had to follow my routine and look out the front window to see what was happening in the world.
So, Daddy and Aunt Pat let Freddy finish what was in my bowl so it wouldn't go to waste.  He was so happy he licked my muzzle.  He's watching his waistline, so Freddy didn't get as large of a dinner.  I got frequent treats throughout the day, so I didn't go hungry.

Groundhog Day is a Hoax!

Yep, you heard it here first, ladies and gentlemen, the holiday we know as Groundhog Day, and it's weather forecasting rodent are a fake!  When  the big day came around, we all heard that Punxsutawney Phil had seen his shadow, and therefore, six more weeks of winter were to come.  Well, we haven't had that bad of a winter, so I didn't think it was unreasonable that we would get some winter weather.  It is February.  But, I got a little suspicious when I heard that two other groundhog prognosticators - Staten Island Chuck, and General Beau Lee in Georgia didn't see their shadow, and therefore there would be an early Spring.  The kicker, was when Aunt Pat read an article in our local newspaper that said that Phil's prediction is decided upon in advance by the "Inner Circle".  I knew it was a conspiracy.  Now Aunt Pat can't even find the newspaper article she read online.  Seriously.   Somebody doesn't want the word to get out.  But Freddy and I are digging up the truth...even if it isn't in the backyard.

Neither Freddy nor I saw our shadows, so we predict an early Spring.   If Freddy has his way, we'll have an early Summer, too.  We went over to his first people's house the other day, and Freddy found the wading pool he used as a puppy.  He remembered it, too.
He loves the water, even when it's not coming from the hose.  It  was a little too cold to turn the hose on.  He can't wait to play in the pool with Stanley and Jade.  Daddy and Aunt Pat are going to get a wading pool for the house.  Aunt Pat hopes that if she can keep Freddy occupied with the water, that maybe he won't eat the vegetables in the garden, like Heidi did.
So they just pretended there was water coming out of it, and Freddy licked at it too.
Silly boy.  I'm always up for a good game, but this was getting a little ridiculous.
But, our Freddy didn't want to give it up.  I know he hopes we're right with our prediction of an early Spring.

I'm a Very Brave Girl

Daddy and Aunt Pat took me to the Vet today.  I got a shot for distemper and didn't even flinch!  Of course I didn't flinch.  My temper is quite wonderful, thank you very much.  Granted, I didn't appreciate the doctor looking in my ears or at my teeth, but I was a good girl.  It was so good to see our friends at the Vet's office again. I've even lost some weight since my last visit.  I do have some tartar on my teeth and may need to have them cleaned, but it might not be until later in the year.  I'll have to go back in April or May, depending on the weather, to have my heart worm test.  Good thing I have some warning.  I'll have plenty of time to study.

Aunt Pat's giving me this look.  Okay, I know the heart worm test isn't something I can take like a human takes a test.  I may be cute, sweet and fluffy, but I've got brains too.   Tomorrow, I'll have a post that will shatter one's illusions about animal weather forecasting.

Having a Little Fun!

Aunt Pat took Freddy and I over to see his Breeder/first people yesterday.  Thankfully it got a little warmer before we left the house, so we could spend a little time outside.  We've been spending a lot of time huddling for warmth...actually it's not that cold inside the house, we both like this dog bed and I really wanted to lay in it, too!  Freddy is a real gentleman, err, gentledog.  He lets me come up on the love seat with him and will share the bed without getting snappy.
Anyway, it was so nice to get out for a little while!  I love seeing Freddy's original people.  They've really accepted me as one of the family.  Once we stayed inside for a while, they brought out a big basket of toys to play with.  One toy was one Freddy had when he was a puppy! It was a stuffed dinosaur and I'm not sure if he remembered it. Because it was only shortly thereafter that the clothes came out and we played dress up!

I thought I looked very stylish.  I was going for the runway fashion model  pout, but all I did was make everybody laugh.  Maybe next time.  I just need a little practice.
