Carpets, Chewing and Tummy Rubs

While we were out in the yard yesterday, the humans had the carpets cleaned. The nerve of them! All the familiar smells were gone. When we eat, we take some food from the bowl and go to a spot in the dining room or living room. Aunt Pat found more food on the carpet than usual. When Daddy gave Katie a biskee, she left part of it on the rug in the other room. When he put it on the sofa, though, she ate it. I think the clean smell may be throwing us off a little. Last night I ate mostly in the kitchen, and later in the evening Katie and

Chloe ate in the kitchen also. I had to christen the rug in the family room last night when I chewed my ball up. I left a nice spot near the recliner so the girls would be more comfortable. Aunt Pat put some goop on the rug to get the stain out, and got some of it. But there was enough left to make sure the girls knew I'd been there.

We love to have our tummies rubbed, especially Chloe. This is Chloe right after she climbed on the sofa next to Aunt Pat, whining for attention, and licking her face all over...it's like she was giving Aunt Pat a facial.
This is Chloe during and after her tummy rub. She calmed right down and took a nap next to Aunt Pat. This weekend, Chloe is going to a sleep over at Mommy's house with Allie and Baby G, and she can't wait!

I Missed It!

Whenever someone opens the refridgerator door, I'm there very shortly afterwards. I know Aunt Pat doesn't like to give out the goods, but a girl can hope, can't she? But today? No siree. The one day I decide to be late for the lunch wagon, I miss out. When Aunt Pat lifted her sandwich from the kitchen table to put in the microwave, one side of the plate dropped and the sandwich fell on the floor! It was turkey on a ciabatta roll and Aunt Pat likes to "nuke" it to soften up the roll. Of course Katie was there, and she zoomed in and gobbled up the turkey before Aunt Pat could do anything. Katie wasn't fast enough to eat the roll, though. Aunt Pat threw that out before Katie could get to it. By the time Chloe and I got there, the turkey was all gone, and Aunt Pat had made a new sandwich. Afterwards, Katie's been laying on the afghan on the sofa, having a good nap.

Aaah, Easter

I hope everyone who celebrates had a happy Easter! I know we did. Good thing we didn't chase the Easter Bunny when he came by, or the humans wouldn't have given us all the bis-kees they did. We all sat, or in my case laid around the table while the humans ate. They didn't share any of their meal with us, no matter how cute or pathetic we looked. Daddy dropped a crumb or two but Katie had positioned herself under the table and got those pretty fast.

Some of the photos may be a little blurry. Aunt Pat woke up yesterday with a migraine, and although she felt better by dinner, her tremors were worse than usual and they affected the camera. Of course Katie and Chloe supervised everything Aunt Pat set on the table.
It was sunny out, but a little cold. Despite that, Chloe wanted to go out to see if her new friend Stella was out. Stella is a young yellow Lab who lives with a relative of our neighbors behind us that came to visit from out of town. I think Katie and Chloe's barking to welcome her may have scared her. She shied away a little and kept away from the fence. It didn't help that there was a lot of standing water from the melting snow and a big mud puddle. I'll talk more about the mud next time.

I'll Do Anything For a Bis-kee(Dog Biscuit)...

well, just about anything. I pee and do number 2 outside like the humans want. I sit and will sometimes stay- sitting there while Aunt Pat holds a biskee in front of my face. I'll also come in from the outside when the humans either ask or yell "Who wants a biskee?" Sometimes I'm the first at the door...like here. I think Aunt Pat did this just so she could take a picture. I'm drooling, for crying out loud!
Katie's turning into a little stool pigeon. She already has Daddy wrapped around her four paws, but now she's sucking up to Aunt Pat. The other morning, somebody (certainly not me) found a box of quart freezer bags on the dining room table and took them into the living room. I think we (me and Chloe) were trying to help put them away. Just because part of the box was chewed with some cardboard from the box on the floor is no reason to think anything else was going on. Aunt Pat had been in the shower so Katie did her chirping bark that means "I need something" Of course, Aunt Pat came down to see what Katie needed and found the box. She wasn't too upset, though. She was more concerned that one of us may have swallowed something they shouldn't have and would get sick from it. Nobody got sick that day, but this afternoon, Chloe must've eaten something she shouldn't have from out in the yard because she threw up in two spots on the rug. She was fine after a few minutes, and was able to keep down her food and the usual post outside bathroom biskees. You can bet Aunt Pat kept an eye on her the next times we were out.

Erin Go Bark!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day! Today, every dog is an Irish Setter! And no, we're not eating corned beef and cabbage, darn it! Just the same old kibble. Hopefully, we'll be able to get a few extra bis-kees (dog biscuits) from them, since Daddy and Aunt Pat have some Irish heritage. Nor are the humans dressing us up like leprechauns for the day...thank heavens!

Cats aren't the only curious animals. I love playing fetch with my tennis balls. So, I wanted to see what made them so bouncy. I had to work fast, since Aunt Pat threw away the first one I tried to take apart. I knew she'd throw this one away once she saw what I was doing.
If you look closely, you can see the small yellow pieces of the ball's cover I took off. Aunt Pat threw those out for me so I wouldn't swallow them. I was so surprised (and so was Aunt Pat) that the ball was hollow! It quickly followed the other one into the garbage.

Chloe likes to chew, too. She was pretty frisky this weekend, wanting to play all the time.
Here she is with the blue chew toy she likes to play with. She really whirled it around! The picture is rather blurry because she was flinging her head around from side to side. She even wanted to play with me!

I know being the youngest can be a little tough, so I just let her have it. Funny thing is, once she got it, she didn't want to play with it any more. Daddy said it was similar to when he and Aunt Pat were puppies, er, I mean kids. Pretty soon, Chloe got tired and laid on a plushy afghan Aunt Pat had made that was on the recliner.

Helping Out Around the House

Mommy and Aunt Allie stopped over yesterday afternoon and we were so excited to see them! We showed them were the biskees are kept and Mommy gave us some!

Now, I don't want to give anyone the idea that all we do is lay around the house. Nope.
We help our humans. Here, it looks like I'm chewing on a toy. But I'm really
making sure Aunt Pat dusts the floor thoroughly.

Chloe pointed out-sniffed out actually any spots that Aunt Pat might have missed. Chloe's still pretty young, so she's learning guard duty and kitchen duty from Katie, and housework detail from me. I don't think she likes housework detail. She doesn't look too happy here.
I think her favorite job is to cuddle with the humans and keep them warm.

Bad weather, Bad, Bad Weather...

kept us inside a lot this weekend, so we had to play fetch inside the house. Here I've just given Aunt Pat the ball to throw back for me. Chloe had to see what we were doing and get in on the fun. We got 16" of snow from Friday into Sunday. That's about as tall as Katie and Chloe are! So, the humans shoveled paths for us in the back yard.
We didn't always stay on the paths, we had to make our usual perimeter checks and sniff our usual spots.
Katie, of course, being the oldest, let us know when it was time to go in. She stood by the door and waited for us.
All that extra running in the snow and playing pooped us out. Katie likes to rest on her afghan upstairs, and Chloe and I took the sofa downstairs. We left the recliner to the humans.

Playtime!

We just love playtime. Any time someone wants to throw a tennis ball or a squeaky toy to me, I'll get it. When we're outside, sometimes Aunt Pat will throw the ball into a snowdrift, so I have to paw at the snow and stick my nose in to go in after it. I don't know if she does this on purpose to keep me from getting bored, or if she just has bad aim. I also like to stop and will lay down and rest, or roll over in the snow. Aunt Pat hopes I don't roll over in the mud once the snow melts.
When we're inside, we play with our toys.
Chloe gets interested in whatever Katie or I are playing with. Last night, Aunt Pat was throwing the ball to me- I know we shouldn't play ball in the house, but it's a tennis ball and the humans can throw it from where ever they're sitting. Besides, I'll get it before it hits anything. Anyway, after a couple of tosses, Chloe starts chasing the ball with me! Aunt Pat got up and picked up a chew toy Chloe tried to take while I was playing with it, and threw both the ball and the toy at the same time! Did Chloe chase the toy she'd wanted? Nope. She went after the ball! She didn't pick it up. She just stared at it until I picked it up. It looks like I'll have to give her some "fetch" lessons.

Katie's been showing Chloe the ropes around the yard.

Katie acts like a little mother some times. Whenever we go out with Aunt Pat, Katie will stand at the top of the stairs and bark until she comes out. Chloe follows her around and will sniff around places either Katie or I have done our business, and then do the same thing on that spot. When Katie's ready to go in, she'll stand at the top of the stairs and will stare at Aunt Pat or give a little bark. When Katie goes in, we all go in. I don't mind, though. The humans give us biskees (dog biscuits) right after we're done. I think they're HAPPY we do our business in the yard.

At night, Katie and Chloe will curl up in the dog bed in Daddy's room. Katie loves a green afghan Daddy and Aunt Pat's mother made, and she lays on it all the time. Chloe loves it too, and they will often lay on it together while we wait for Daddy to get home from work.

Safety, It's Everyone's Responsibility

Mommy came over this morning and were we happy to see her! She stopped by so Daddy could take her car in for an oil change. It'll keep her and our other human family members safe when they go out. But, since they also take us to the Vet in, I wouldn't mind if it broke down once in a while. Don't get me wrong, We love the staff and Doctor Hughes. It's just... who really likes going to the doctor. Daddy told me that he and Aunt Pat had to have shots too, when they were little, for allergies. He also said that Aunt Pat would hide in the bathroom so he would have to go first. I'll have to keep that in mind the next time I have to have a shot.

We know our humans keep us safe, but we also keep them safe, too. Every time we go out in back, Katie and Chloe patrol the perimeter of the fence. They sniff everything to make sure there haven't been any intruders around. I keep the human occupied by having them throw me a ball or toy in a game called fetch. When we're in the house, we may LOOK like we're relaxing, but we're on the lookout for anything suspicious.

Katie is especially alert. She'll bark for Chloe to get up on the table to look out the window. Chloe's young, and Katie is teaching her the ropes. Katie will make sure she keeps barking until the threat passes. If we keep barking, one of the humans will come see what we're alerting them to. We may eat a lot of bis-kees, but we earn each and every one of them.

I'm NOT a Zombie

and neither are my sisters, DESPITE what some of these photos look like. Sure, Katie is older, but she still runs around like a puppy when she wants to. Strange, though, Chloe's eyes don't glow like ours do when Aunt Pat takes a picture. Hmmmm. Aunt Pat was able to fix them in this glamour shot of Katie. It's better, but I think it makes Katie look like she's wearing eyeliner...kind of like Alice Cooper. Aunt Pat says he's some singer who sounds like we do sometimes.

Chloe is taking her position of watching people very seriously. She's set up her position here on the table in the living room. Since she took this picture, Aunt Pat moved the vase and a small figure off the table so they wouldn't get broken.

The humans make sure we get good food to eat, and they're generous with the bis-kees. (dog treats). However, while they expect us to share our toys, but they WON'T share any people food. Well, Daddy will give us a piece of something once in a great while, but Aunt Pat won't budge. It doesn't matter how cute or how pathetic we look or how much we beg, we end up disappointed. We will either lay down in the kitchen next to their chair, hoping they'll drop something

Or, one or more of us will sit in the dining room, watching. Oh well. Some days, you just can't win.
